The banded sea krait’s lethal venom packs a punch ten times more toxic than a rattlesnake’s, but fortunately these serpents are so meek that human bites are rare. Kraits cruise the shallow, tropical waters of coral reefs and mangrove swamps. But, alone among the sea snakes, they are amphibious and able to spend up to ten days at a time on land. Sea kraits hit the beach to digest their food (mostly eels and fish), mate, and lay eggs.

When a short-tail stingray stabbed a swimming Steve Irwin (the "Crocodile Hunter"), the entire species acquired the undeserved reputation of killers. Irwin’s unlucky encounter notwithstanding, human stingray deaths are extremely rare—only one or two occur worldwide each year. The animals typically use their daggerlike tail spines for protection against predators like sharks or killer whales.

Short-tails are the largest of all stingrays and can reach lengths of 14 feet (4.25 meters) and top 750 pounds (340 kilograms).

A study finds that 84% of the world’s fish tested was not safe to eat more than once per month because of mercury poisoning. And 13% of the fish isn’t safe to eat, period. Though honestly, I’m not sure how happy I am eating something that’s so poisonous you can only eat one serving per month.

In the United States the number is better.  Though in the US the study only looked at one fish, Alaskan Halibut (which I’ve had, it’s yummy).  43% of Alaskan Halibut was only safe to eat once a month because of its mercury levels.

And in Japan and Uruguay, the study found that “Mercury concentrations in fish from sites in Japan and Uruguay were so high that no consumption is recommended.”

A healthy diet should include at least two portions of fish a week, including one of oily fish. That's because fish and shellfish are good sources of many vitamins and minerals . Oily fish – such as salmon and fresh tuna  –  is also particularly high in long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, which may help to keep your heart healthy.

Most of us should have more fish in our diet, including more oily fish. However, there are maximum recommended amounts for oily fish, crab and some types of white fish. There is additional advice for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding , and children and babies.

Fish that is steamed, baked or grilled is a healthier choice than fried fish. Frying can increase the fat content of fish and shellfish, especially if they’re cooked in batter.

Short answer? It’s used to be best if your betta fish ate a varied diet. Prepared foods, freeze dried foods, frozen foods and live foods. Now? Maybe not so much. Better products now means pellets can be the mainstay. As despite the lack of variation your fish can still get a nutritionally complete diet from pellets.

But that may be easier said than done since betta fish are known to be finicky eaters. Food one betta will wolf down voraciously will be spit out summarily by another. Go figure. Maybe the question should be “What SHOULD bettas eat?”

Should eat? Actually feeding these fish may be little more than an afterthought for many betta keepers. It seems easy enough. Get some food; feed the fish. What’s there to it?

In his book Oceana , Ted Danson, the actor and oceans advocate, writes that one-third of the world's fisheries are currently in collapse, "unable to regenerate their populations fast enough to keep pace with the rate at which they are being caught or killed." In an interview with Rodale Wellness, he said that once you deal with overfishing , you can deal with all the other problems facing oceans today, whether it's climate change, pollution, or simple negligence. Luckily, you can save the oceans and enjoy healthy fish that can help ward off prostate cancer , depression, and poor eyesight .

The Monterey Bay Aquarium's "Super Green" list of seafood—the fish that come from the least-pressured habitats, are free of industrial pollutants like mercury and dioxins, and also contain the highest levels of healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Below are some of the selections from the list of best fish choices that you can use to conjure up dinner ideas.
